We love the whimsical style of local designer Avery Vaughn!  She is the brains behind the recontructed line, Nymphette.  Make sure to check out her fall collection to be featured in the upcoming Fall Fashion Show at TSI on November 7th.
In between her busy school and designing schedule, she answered some questions for us!
Jaxstylefile:  When did you start the line?
Avery:  I started Nymphette last February but I have been working on developing the look for a couple of years
JSF:  Your pieces have a lot of sewing involved.  Are you a self taught seamstress?
A:  No, I owe it all to my Grandma who taught me how to sew when I was twelve. I have developed my own style and technique through the years but she provided the foundation for me to get started.
JSF:  What inspires you?
A:  I get inspired by the textures and classic color schemes of the vintage fabrics that I use. I also draw from the visual effect created by burlesque style and the freedom of the clothing that emerged during the jazz age.
JSF:  What’s your feel/vision for the fall collection that you’re going to be showcasing at TSI?
A:  For my fall show I am blending urban hip-hop style with vintage sillouhettes and fabrics. I want to create an asthetic that is sexy and liberating but at the same time expresses the charm of old hollywood glamour.
JSF:  Which designer do you have the most respect for and why?
A: Galliano. He takes risks and never ceases to show something fresh and unique. I love the dark, victorian inspiration that he juxtaposes against the femininity of his garments.
Thanks so much for the interview Avery!  We can’t wait to see what you’re going to show in a couple weeks!

Two friends.  Two looks.  Too cute!  Yeah, i know that was cheesy but seriously, these girls were shopping around 5 points and both looked stylish and pulled together. They also both had 2 totally different styles, but yet together, they fully complimented one another.

Ideal for a night at Square One!  It’s not just jeans and a tank top.  I love the double layered cami, big cocktail ring and vintage inspired owl necklace.  Simple and understated but oh so pretty.

a friend of mine told me about style rookie, a blog that 13 year old tavi gevinson writes.  how adorable is this girl?  when i was 13 i was too insecure about my awkward bangs and braces to rock out style that would draw attention to myself.  i love that she doesn’t give a f**k.  her quirky, fun fashion sense and carefree attitude makes me want to be her new bestie.

in her most recent post she talks about the outfit she’s wearing.  note the miu miu top and christian siriano skirt that were both gifts.  if only i were half as cool as tavi.

There were some  bands playing at one of my favorite new spots, The Sinclair, and while I was there I spotted Adam looking quite dapper.  In between the music, I had the chance to ask him a couple questions about his handsome style.

jaxstylefile:  Where do you draw from for fashion inspiration?

Adam:  Finding a balance between professional and fun.

JSF:  Who’s your fashion icon?

A:  Ryan Gossling

JSF:  What do you listen to when you’re getting ready?

A:  The National

JSF:  Where do you shop?

A:  revolveclothing.com

JSF:  If you could purchase one thing for your wardrobe, what would it be?

A: A Thom Browne suit.

Guys don’t have alot to work with when adding accessories, but Adam’s signature color (purple) chucks were the perfect splash of color and attitude to play down his suit.  More guys should take some style pointers from GQ Adam!

TACT: n. careful consideration in dealing with others to avoid giving offense.

A friend of mine told me I had to meet Tony Rodrigues and his wife, Wendy.  She showed me the cute tee she bought with a running fox graphic and I was immediately intrigued.

Although it seems like  indie t-shirt lines are popping up around every corner I turn, this one can hold it’s own in the pack.  I like the unexpected, almost vintage feel that the line has.  It’s all about quirky images and the word TACT screened on everything, from pillow cases to great nylon messenger bags to super soft t-shirts.

I love hearing the story behind a company.  TACT came about practically by mistake.   Tony had been working on some images for his art (yes, he’s a fine artist too!) and accidentally purchased printing ink for fabric instead of paper.  He thought the gun would be cool screened on a tee, so he first printed on basic Hanes tees he picked up at Target.  He and a friend of his posted up for an ArtWalk a couple months back and the response was great!  Thus, TACT was born.

Now they are using much higher quality blank tees from Alternative Apparel.  The pigment dyes used on the shirts leave them feeling super soft and comfy.  The dusty colors are perfect for transitioning into fall in Florida.  Wear the tees casual or pair with a vintage blazer, skinny jeans and boots for a date night.

Even for a young company, TACT is already making a name for itself.  You can find them weekly at the Riverside Arts Market or check out their goods at Anomaly, in 5 Points.  It’s not even the slightest bit offensive.
